Patrick Horner tells us about his growing up during the Great Depression as the son of a tenant farmer. He attended one-room schools, graduated from high school and law school, although not college. Other than ten years private practice, he spent his life as a Missouri judge. The powers that be say a writer has a voice; Pat sounds like a beloved judge; his wording is very specific. I know Pat; we are in a writers' group together. He is a delightful gentleman. We are also very close to the same age, so I have lived through a lot of the same things he did, and in the same area of the country. You get an authentic look at his life and times, as well as a dose of his philosophy and thoughts on many things, including his faith which has been an important part of his life. Very interesting memoir written by a very interesting man. I wish I had met him sooner, as I would have enjoyed being able to converse with him on many subjects.Product details

Stand On Your Own Two Feet Patrick Horner Eugenie Rayner 9780615905433 Books Reviews
As long time friends of Pat and his wife I am not really qualified to judge.
Many of the places were also places of my childhood. I was in classes at Central Mo. state during the time he and Julia were in school..
I did think that it was well written and well presented. He should write another book.
A book with a good example of how we should always keep on keeping on, regardless of our life situation. Recommend book to others.
Thanks
It was a gift for my mother she knows the author personally so the purchase was a good idea. Thank you
An incredibly honest retrospect over a very successful life in which the author reveals the torments and doubts that challenged him from childhood on. Despite his many accomplishments and a life of dedicated service, Pat fought with insecurities and doubts of his worthiness. An inspiring story!
Judge Horner's stories, anecdotes and reasons behind some of his decisions provides a fantastic faith and family based blueprint for the fine art of living. Sometimes riddled with self doubt himself, his life is an examination and celebration of 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'.
I know the Dakota trip wasn't meant to be funny, but the inflatable mattress served to remind me that in my own life, I just had to get by, even if just for another minute, because things sometimes, could only get better. Had to smile.
The personal approach to telling a life's story is inspiring. A unchecked vulnerability in life's twists and turns. This text unmasks the insecurities shared in life and serves as a brilliant testimony of respons. In a world that would rather just be hand feed Patrick Horner sets an example overcome, persever, and stand!
